The World Health Organization (WHO) on Thursday issued its first report on the spread of Monkeypox. This report detailed their typical profile compiled by the plague. Available statistics say that almost all monkeypox patients are men. The average age of their infected is 37. WHO said that three of them who were infected identified as men who had sex with men.The surge in monkeypox infection has been reported since early May outside Western countries and Central Africa where this disease has long been endemic.From January 1 to July 4, 6,027 cases of Monkeypox confirmed in the laboratory and three deaths have been reported to WHO from 59 countries.
Since June 27, the number of cases has increased by 77 percent. During this period two new deaths have been recorded. Both have happened in the Republic of Central AfricaWHO said 10 countries had not reported new cases for more than 21 days – the maximum incubation period of the disease.
About 82 percent of cases are in Europe and 15 percent are in America.Countries with more than 1,000 confirmed cases are Britain (1,351), Spain (1,256) and Germany (1,242), according to the European Disease Prevention and Control Center, and European WHO.Outside Europe, WHO reports count 460 cases confirmed in the United States and 300 in Canada.In his first two-weekly situation report on Monkeypox, WHO said that gender data was available in 4,406 cases, of which 99.5 percent were men.”The plague continues to affect men who have sex with men who have reported new sex with one or many male partners, showing no ongoing transmission signals outside of this network for now,” the report said.Men aged 18 to 44 years contributed 79 percent of cases, with an average age of 37.There are six known cases among children under the age of 18, and 25 cases known among health workers.
