Read Time:2 Minute, 35 Second

Lately, the mystery thriller genre has been one of the most popular genres in any language. People love the idea of a plot where they are trying to solve a mystery, trying to figure out what is happening, who the bad guy is, and more. Tollywood has recently had a lot of good Telugu Movies in the genre. Check out this list to find a few of our recommendations to watch:

  • HIT: The First Case

An unstable police officer struggling with his own past is forced to overcome his challenges and investigate a challenging murder case. Now that sounds like a recipe for a hit mystery thriller. Released in 2020, HIT: The First Case left the audience in awe with the intriguing plotline. In fact, the film worked so well that it was remade in Hindi while a standalone sequel has already been filmed in Telugu.

  • U Turn

A captivating narrative is the base of any crime thriller, and the Samantha starrer U Turn surely delivers on that front. Filmed in both Tamil and Telugu simultaneously, U Turn is a remake of the director’s own 2016 Kannada hit film of the same name. Samantha plays the role of an intern journalist who tries to investigate and solve an interesting case.

  • Anasuya

Anasuya starring Bhumika Chawla is another intriguing Telugu movie with a journalist investigating a series of peculiar murders where the killer takes a different organ each time and leaves a rose on the dead body. How Anasuya tries to bring him to justice is what follows the rest of the film.

  • Nishabdham

Starring Madhavan, Anushka Shetty, Michael Madsen, Anjali, Subbaraju, and Shalini Pandey in prominent roles, Nishabdham is the story of a world-renowned cello player who is found dead in a house that is assumed to be haunted. Is it really the work of a supernatural being or is there something even more sinister behind it? Watch and find out.

  • Red

Identical twins reuniting after parting ways in childhood, a murder with both of them as suspects, now that sounds like a concoction for a good mystery thriller. Explore the story of these two as they find themselves trapped in a labyrinth of secrets, deception and crime.

  • Evaru

Adivi Sesh and Regina Cassandra’s Evaru is an absolute delight for anyone who loves the genre. Loosely based on the Spanish thriller “The Invisible Guest” the film revolves around a murder mystery investigated by Sesh. Although the Spanish original was remade in Hindi as Badla, the Telugu remake has tweaked the story quite a bit to keep it relevant while still delivering on the surprise factor.

  • 47 Days

Sometimes, when you look at others’ stories, you find yourself in them. That’s exactly what happens in one of Satyadev Kancharana’s best Telugu Movies, i.e. 47 Days. Suspended cop Satya gets his hands on a murder case and soon realizes that it is pretty similar to his wife’s mysterious death. As he unravels the case, he becomes more and more involved in this mess. Watch it if you like layered mystery thrillers that unfold slowly.
