Eleven people, including four children, were killed and 12 others were injured after a pick- up van collided with a truck in Chhattisgarh’s Balodabazar- Bhatapara quarter late on Thursday, police said on Friday. Of the injured, three people are in serious condition and have been shifted to a sanitarium in Raipur, 70 kilometres down, police added. Police officers, on condition of obscurity, said the motorist of the pick- up vehicle, who was also injured, had allegedly consumed liquor and lost control of the vehicle. While the truck motorist fled from the spot, his assistant was detained.
Balodabazar- Bhatapara supervisor of police( SP) Deepak Jha said the accident took place near Khamariya vill around 11 pm on Thursday. “ All the victims were residers of Khilora vill, 40 km down from Khamariya vill, under Simga police station. They were returning home after attending a function in the vill in Anjuni when their pick up van collided head on with the truck, ” he said.
All th departed and injured were inhabitants of the pick- up van Police said their brigades reached the spot a many twinkles after the incident and set up that seven peo “ Four others succumbed to injuries in Balodabazar sanitarium. Three critically injured people were shifted to a sanitarium in Raipur; the remaining nine are admitted in a sanitarium in the quarter itself, ” Jha said.
The departed included four youthful children “ We’ve detained an assistant of the truck motorist who was with him at the time of the accident. The motorist, who’s from Girdih quarter in Jharkhand, fled the spot. I’ve informed Girdih police about the incident and he’ll soon be arrested, ” the SP said.
Aase under section 304( A)( causing death by negligence) of Indian Penal Code has been registered. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chhattisgarh chief minister Bhupesh Baghel extended their condolences to the kin of the departed and blazoned compensation.
The Prime Minister blazoned anex-gratia of ₹ 2 lakh to the family of the departed and ₹,000 to the injured from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund. Baghel blazoned an partner gratia of ₹ 4 lakh to the kin of the departed and ₹ 1 lakh to the injured.
