Australian Senator Indigenous Lidia Thorpe on Monday called Queen England Elizabeth II as a colonial and vowed reluctantly when taking the oath of office as a new member of parliament. The 96 -year -old queen was the head of the state of Australia and Thorpe angry swearing to the queen by raising her right fist in respecting black power as a sign of protest.
Senator Green Thorpe said, “I am sovereign, Lidia Thorpe, seriously and sincerely swear that I will be loyal and I have a true loyalty to the glorious queen Elizabeth II.”He was then reprimanded by the president of the room, Sue Lines.”Senator Thorpe, Senator Thorpe, you must recite the oath as printed on the card,” said Sue Lines.Green Senator Lidia Thorpe then had to repeat her loyalty oath in the senate after starting the queen as “invaders”.
After reading the promise as needed, Thorpe posted a tweet that said, “Sovereignty has never been handed over.” Australia is a British colony for more than 100 years. During that period, thousands of indigenous Australians were killed and people were displaced by wholesale. The country gained de facto independence in 1901, but was never a completely mature republic.
Some polls show that most Australians support the republic, but there is a little agreement on how the head of state must be elected. There is a dispute whether the queen’s replacement will be chosen by members of parliament or the public. This problem was once again revealed in the last election, when the famous Republic Anthony Albanese was elected as Prime Minister. He quickly appointed the first “Republican Minister” in the country.
“I support the Republic,” Albanese told CNN on Sunday. However, he added that there was a referendum that was promised to give Australian Australians the role of institutions in policy making and other referendums had to wait. Our priority is this term is the recognition of people first nations in our constitution,” Albanese said.
