‘Reasonable’ chance travel between UK and US could resume by September, US Covid expert Dr Anthony Fauci tells ITV News

There is an inexpensive chance we’ll be ready to travel more freely between the US and therefore the UK by the top of the summer, America’s chief medical adviser has told ITV News.

Asked by News At Ten Presenter Tom Bradby if by this September, people could expect to travel more freely between the 2 countries again, Dr Anthony Fauci said he believed this was “a reasonably good prediction”.

However, while he said he hoped travel between the nations could resume soon, Dr Fauci added he couldn’t predict when exactly which may be.

“You really can’t tell because things happen, variants occur, things happen with regards to infection,” he said.

He continued that the united kingdom might be during a “very favourable” position by the top of the summer because of Boris Johnson’s “prudent” decision to delay England’s summer solstice Freedom Day.

“The UK, i feel prudently did what they did is to tug back a touch ,” Dr Fauci said.

“I think once they get more and more people vaccinated and obtain the people who’ve gotten one dose to form sure they get their second dose, i feel the united kingdom goes to be during a very superiority by the time we get to the top of the summer.”

The US doctor said coronavirus variants “should always be taken seriously” because there’ll always be uncertainty about how existing vaccines will handle them.

He said we’ve been “quite fortunate” that the Alpha variant, which originated in Kent, and therefore the Delta variant, which originated in India, are sensitive to vaccines currently in use.
