The Israeli Prime Minister promised a Sunday investigation on charges by a former female guard in the maximum security prison that he was repeatedly raped by a Palestinian inmate after being forced to work as a “sex slave” by his superiors.Reports that female guard has been harassed by prisoners in Gilboa prison has been circulating in Israeli media for several years.
But prison management was under new supervision in September last year, when six Palestinian prisoners came out of Gilboa by tunning from their cells through the drainage system, the escape became global headlines. The past year has seen a series of revelations about what some Israeli media called Gilboa “a pimp affair,” a reference for a broad report that the supervisor of men ordered female guards into situations where they were vulnerable to attacks by prisoners.
But last week a woman who identified herself as a former Gilboa guard, and who remained anonymous, posted an online testimony that said that she was repeatedly raped by a Palestinian prisoner. He said he was “handed over” to him by his boss and became a “personal sex slave”.”I don’t want to be raped, violated again and again,” he said. The female lawyer, Cool Barak, then confirmed anonymous testimony at Israel’s Channel 12 on weekends, said his client needed mental health support after the ordeal.
Reacting to development, Israeli Prime Minister Yair Lapid told his cabinet on Sunday: “It cannot (tolerated) that a soldier was raped by a terrorist during his service.””It must – and will – will be investigated. We will ensure that the soldier received assistance,” Lapid said.In a separate statement on Sunday, internal security Minister Omer Barlev said, “The affair that occurred a few years ago in Gilboa prison,” has “shaken the Israeli public.”
“I read the published testimony and I was just surprised,” Barlev said.Lapid said the aspects of this case were under jokes, but he held a discussion with Israeli Prison Commissioner (IPS) Katy Perry “to ensure that such incidents had never happened again.”Gilboa prison, in northern Israel, is where Israel holds a number of Palestinians who were convicted of involvement in the attack on the Israeli people.
