In light of the spread of Covid-19’s Omicron variant across the world, the US has decided to put testing conditions for all transnational trippers. This follows moves by several other countries, including India that has commanded fresh trip restrictions for passengers coming in from‘at- threat’ countries.
What has the US blazoned?
In a tweet early Friday, US President Joe Biden said “ I ’m publicizing moment that all inbound transnational trippers must test within one day of departure — anyhow of vaccination status or nation. This tighter testing timeline provides an added degree of protection as scientists continue to study the Omicron variant”.
As per Reuters, the new rules taking transnational air trippers arriving in the US to gain a negative COVID-19 test within one day of trip will take effect Monday at 1201 am ET.

What were the before rules?
Before, vaccinated transnational air trippers could enter the US with the result of a test done within three days of their departure. Also, before this week, the US administration said it would bar nearly all foreign citizens from entering the US from eight southern African countries over fears of the spread of the Omicron variant, but it didn’t extend those trip restrictions to other countries where the new variant has been discovered.

What’s the situation with India?
Indeed as the Indian government has moved to put testing conditions on transnational air trippers from‘at- threat’ countries, the country reported its first Omicron positive case in Karnataka on Thursday. Last week, India had blazoned resumption of listed marketable transnational breakouts effective December 15 but decided to put the renew into latency on account of the evolving Omicron situation.
